2. Why my VCD/DVD Player does not recongnize the burned CD?
The reason why some burned CDs cannot be played on your DVD/VCD player is due to the "Read" ability of your DVD/VCD player. Please make sure your DVD/VCD player supports VCD 2.0 format. Even so, according to our test, some models of DVD/VCD player (normally, old models) do not support some particular brand names of burned CD-R or CD-RW disc (especially for CD-RW disc). If this is your case, please turn to another brand name of blank CD-R disc (not CD-RW disc) to have a try. If there are still problems, please try to burn the CD-R with relatively low speed (say, the lowest speed your CD writer supports). Tips for play the burned CD: after insert the disc to the DVD player, please don not forget to press the "Play" button on your DVD player's remote control to play the photo slideshows.

3. When I play the burned CD, what should I do if I am required to turn on the "PBC"?
"PBC" means "PlayBack Control". It's a function for VCD 2.0 format to support playback of the disc menu. Please do not press any other buttons before you press the "Play" button. Otherwise, the main disc menu cannot be shown up. Sometimes, after you insert the burned disc into the DVD player, you see the blue screen on TV. If this is your case, you need to press the "Play" button before you press any digital button ( 1, 2, 3,..) on your DVD player's remote control to play the corresponding slide shows.

4. Why the size of my photos is only the quarter of the screen on TV?
When the photo is only the quarter of the screen on TV, you must be seeing the disc menu. Every disc menu selects the first photo of your photo slideshow you’ve prepared in the first step. When you see the main disc menu, please remember to press the digital button ( 1, 2, 3,..) on your DVD player's remote control to play the corresponding slide shows.

5. Why I cannot move forward and previous of my photos when I am using the simulation?
The simulation does not provide the function of moving forward and previous of pictures. So, you need to try this with your real DVD player’s remote control.

6. Can I modify or add new templates of the Disc Menu by myself?
Yes. But it needs patience. You can try to modify the templates by the following steps.
-Go to template folder under the set up folder of DVD Photo Slideshow(Normally, it is at C:\Program Files\DVD Photo Slideshow\template). You will find some .ini files (they are text files, you can open them with any edit tools.) and some sub-directories with the same name. You can see that there are so many parameters for the .ini file. So, it’s not easy to create your own templates with correct position shown on your TV. (Anyway, you can have a try if you are patient enough. Our next version will let users make their own disc menu more conveniently.)
-Go to the corresponding sub-directory, change the .JPG or .BMP files to change the parts of the template listed on the Disc Menu.

7. What is the resolution of my photos shown on TV?
DVD Photo Slideshow optimizes your digital photos and use the High Resolution Still Picture format which is supported by DVD/SVCD. This technique makes photos look great on TV. The resolution of the image shown on TV can be as high as 704x576.

8. Can I use multiple albums? How many photos can be burned into a normal CD?
Yes, you can have multiple albums, each with maximum 99 images. According to the standard of VCD 2.0 which supports the still picture, maximum 99 photos can be stored in one segment of the VCD. This is the reason why you can only add 99 pictures into one slideshow. But it can support totally 200 segments. So, the full version of DVD Photo Slideshow will support 99 x 200 = 1980 photos.

VCD, DVD and Photo VCD
Video CD, or VCD, is a digital movie format. It's basically a primitive version of DVD. A Video CD is a kind of CD. It looks the same as a music CD or a CD-ROM, except that instead of music or software, it holds movies, using compressed MPEG-1 video. Its resolution is 352x240 (NTSC) or 352x288 (PAL), which is roughly comparable to VHS. VCD uses an MPEG-1 encoding standard to store the video and audio. A VCD can be played on almost all standalone DVD Players and on all computers with a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive with the help of a VCD decoder software. VCD 2.0 was introduced in 1995 and adds hi-resolution stills, fast-forward, and rewind functions to the original specifications; SuperVCD (SVCD) uses either high bit rate MPEG-1 or variable bit rate MPEG-2 for the use of CD-R drives instead of DVD drives.
DVD once stood for digital video disc or digital versatile disc, but now it just stands for DVD -- the next generation of optical disc storage technology. DVD is essentially a bigger, faster CD that can hold cinema-like video, better-than-CD audio, and computer data.
Photo VCD is not a standard by itself, this term is used when a group of image files are placed on a VCD connected to TV and displayed in a format like a slideshow. There are two ways of doing this with VCD 2.0 technology: one is to import the pictures into a video editing program, adding optional music and transition effects as desired. The time between pictures is decided by the filmmaker, not the viewer. The result is output as a VCD or SVCD motion video file and authored like any motion video to VCD or SVCD. The resolution is limited to VCD 352x240 (NTSC), 352x288 (PAL) or SVCD 480x480 (NTSC), 480x576 (PA)L which may appear grainy or low resolution compared to the original pictures. Another way is to author a photo VCD 2.0 disc encoding each picture as a still MPEG at 704x480 (NTSC), 704x576 (PAL). This allows better resolution but (probably) lacks transition effects. The resulting collection of still MPEG images can be authored with a program that automates the whole process from images to disc.

MPEG , MPEG Picture Structure and SMPTE
The Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) develops standards for digital video and digital audio compression. It operates under the auspices of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). To use MPEG video files, you need a personal computer with sufficient processor speed, internal memory, and hard disk space to handle and play the typically large MPEG file (which has a file name suffix of .mpg). You also need an MPEG viewer or client software that plays MPEG files. You can download shareware or commercial MPEG players from a number of sites on the Web.
MPEG picture structure
A MPEG Picture consists of a field or a frame. It's identified in the bit stream by the picture header that specifies the picture structure and the picture coding type. There are three (3) types of MPEG picture as the following:
Intra picture ( I_picture) refers to a picture which has no reference to any other picture, but it can be used as a reference for other pictures.
Predicted picture (P_picture) refers to a picture which may have references from another frame and can be used as a reference for other pictures. Compared to the I_picture, the P_picture may be coded with a greater efficiency.
Bi-directional picture (B_picture ) refers to a picture which may have references from two different frames, but it cannot be used as a reference picture. This kind of picture may be coded with the greatest efficiency.
Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) is a professional association for enhancing the profession and contributing to the technology of motion picture and television engineering. The SMPTE establishes standards, practices, and guidelines for the motion picture and television industry, including the audio that goes with the motion images. The SMPTE publishes the SMPTE Journal, a monthly. Membership is open to anyone who is interested.
